Common causes of vulval pruritus
Vulval pruritus is a common symptom for which patients seek healthcare. Genital skin is more prone for itchy dermatoses as a result of warmth, sweating and lack of aeration. Pruritus is associated with many localized infections, infestations, inflammatory dermatoses, allergic and irritant conditions. A proper clinical history, clinical examination, and investigations like skin biopsy or patch tests are needed. Therapy should be initiated in a timely manner to avoid the prolongation of symptoms and to prevent complications. Pruritic vulvar diseases have a huge impact on quality of life.
